Move Along, Nothing to See Here May 2017

I figured other bloggers would like to get an under the hood view of how I’ve been doing since I started and published my first blog post on March 23rd, 2017. I’m sure there are plenty of people with better stats than me and plenty with worse but I feel pretty good about how things are going. It has been a lot of work, but a lot of fun.

The best part has been the opportunity to solidify ideas that have been in my head for years. To actually put them down on paper is more helpful to my own planning and judgment than I could have imagined.

Okay, so the reason everyone is here.

The STATS!

This is my first two full months. Since I published my first post on March 23, the first couple weeks were only a snapshot. My first big spike was courtesy of the amazing Physician on FIRE. His feature of Tax Credits for High Income Earners gave me my best day in my first month of blogging.

A few weeks later, a guest post I wrote for MustardSeedMoney.com that was a Rockstar Finance feature called Is Your Heuristic Showing dropped and I got a good number of referrals from that. Thanks Rob for featuring my first guest post!

I’ll give you one guess where the big spike on May 15th came from. Hmm, could it be a rockstarfinance.com feature of the day? Yes, yes it could. Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication resulted in my best day yet as far as traffic goes and my first piece of hate email from someone that didn’t like my use of quotes!

Shortly after that Thefinancialdiet.com picked up both my guest post at Mustard Seed Money and my own Rockstar Finance feature on The 7 Personal Finance Articles We Loved This Week. That was the next little bump on May 19th.

My top blog posts are:

  1. Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication (Thanks, Rockstar!)
  2. High Income Parent Portfolio
  3. Tax Credits for High Income Earners
  4. High Income Parent Investment Policy Statement
  5. Should I Pay Down Debt or Save for an Emergency Fund, May Neither?

The last four have all been featured by Physician on Fire. You can check out his sponsors through the link I just gave. He gives a lot and does a ton of good on and off the Internet.  If you get a chance to give back to him, I suggest you take that opportunity. Remember half of anything he makes is going to charity. He’s kinda a big deal. 🙂

Number 6 is my first post, What Makes a High Income Earner? I guess the fact that it has been around the longest helps with the traffic numbers.

I figure my bounce rate is pretty high because of the one and done traffic from being featured in a few places. Hopefully, readers that get a steady dose of good information from me will come back and that will go down. We will see.

Of course, most of my readers are from the good old U.S. of A. but its fun to see people from around the world reading some stuff a guy types on his laptop in Texas. That still kinda blows my mind.

I’m most popular with people from around my own age group. Shocker. The younger crowd is second best which lifts my spirits about putting in this work each day.

My ideal audience in my mind is a younger me. It’s targeted at someone starting a family, delaying some gratification and busting his/her tail to get a good education so that he/she can provide for her/his family and have some fun along the way.

Hopefully, some 24-35 year-olds are getting something out of this. I hope my articles are helping you avoid the mistakes I made. As I get older, I’m directing more financial planning toward my parents. I foresee some 50+ year-olds getting some decent information out of my writing in the future, at least I hope so.

What’s in Store?

Coming up is a guest post at the WhitecoatInvestor.com. Thanks to Dr. Dahle for that.

Another post is due sometime soon with who else but our beloved Physician on FIRE.

Thanks to EJ at DadsDollarsDebts.com and WallStreePhysician.com for sharing my content, featuring my on their Humpday and Mailbag articles and leaving comments.

Thanks to everyone who has shared my articles on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and all the forums I frequent, Boglehead.org, RockstarFiance.com, Whitecoatinvestor.com, Mr.MoneyMustache.com, and GetConnectDad.com.  Special thanks to all the RockstarFinance Community.

The blogging friendships and financial freedom community have been so awesome! I also want to thank J. Money at BudgetsareSexy.com for the help and making it much easier for everyone to find sound financial advice with Rockstar and the forums there.

I’m looking forward to another couple great months. Peace.
